The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce is urging residents to shop, dine and spend locally on Small Business Saturday today—an effort to boost independent shops, restaurants and entertainment venues in the area.

Former McAllen mayor Jim Darling urged the Rio Grande Valley to use water conservation methods and tap reuse water—groundwater—river water instead of costly desalination.

He spoke at a November 19 luncheon in McAllen and stressed that regional cooperation and new funding ideas are needed to meet rising water demands.

Edinburg officials will hold a DWI Awareness meeting on Dec.

3 at 6 p.m. at City Hall + 415 W. University Drive in partnership with MADD, the Texas DOT Save a Life program and the Edinburg Police Department. The meeting will share details on impaired driving trends and legal impacts to help residents plan for safe holiday travel.

Hidalgo and Cameron counties received failing marks on the March of Dimes 2025 Preterm Birth Report Card — with rates of 13.3% and 12.7% — even though both counties showed improvements since the previous report.
