CRIME NEWS

  • Deputies with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office found an unidentified male with a gunshot wound to the head on the 4500 block of Fe Drive in rural Edinburg at 9:22 p.m. Sunday—his identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.  KRGV
  • Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra said a homicide investigation was underway near Tower — Trenton roads in Alamo after deputies found an adult male with a gunshot wound to the head on Sunday night.  KRGV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mission CISD has released a new cell phone policy for the upcoming school year as required by a state law. The policy allows students to bring their devices—but they must be turned off and put away, following the example of other Rio Grande Valley districts.  KRGV
  • South Texas ISD begins its first day of school today for over 4,000 students as a new police department—with a chief, captain, and eight officers—starts patrolling six campuses from Edinburg to Olmito as armed guards also support campus safety. The enhanced security measures aim to ensure a safe environment for all students.  KRGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former Congressman Colin Allred held a town hall in Alamo last Saturday as part of his campaign for the U.S. Senate in the Rio Grande Valley, where he said he would lower costs for housing, health care, and childcare and address civil rights and gerrymandering—plans aimed at fixing a broken government. Local voters, including Diane Myers, asked questions ahead of the 2026 primaries and a possible May runoff ahead of the November election.  KRGV
