ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Ernest Hernandez Perez died last night when his Chevy Trailblazer rolled over on FM 1925—Depot Road after he lost control and was ejected from the vehicle, and law enforcement is investigating the fatal accident.  FOX RGV
  • Southbound lanes on U.S. 281 near Linn north of Edinburg were closed after a single-vehicle rollover accident struck a DPS trooper unit+ an elderly man was injured and taken to a local hospital while the officer remained unharmed.  KRGV

CRIME NEWS

  • A 22-year-old man, Luis Gonzalez Jr., is charged with two counts of aggravated assault after he allegedly stabbed a woman multiple times during a domestic dispute near Edinburg and led authorities on a vehicle pursuit — he is set to be arraigned on Thursday.  KRGV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Texas Comptroller’s office released December 2024 sales tax revenue figures that show many Rio Grande Valley cities saw growth — Allied Consulting Group used the data to create two league tables listing the top ten cities by overall revenues and percentage increase.  Rio Grande Guardian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos said a $240 million desalination plant planned for the north side will serve McAllen and many nearby cities — including Edinburg and Mission — to ease water shortages when the Rio Grande levels fall. The project will use up to eight wells to produce about 10 million gallons per day as a new water source for the region.  Rio Grande Guardian
  • Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza will give his final State of the City address tonight at the ACE Center—he announced he will not seek re-election due to health reasons and highlighted nearly $300 million in construction and over 1,000 new jobs created last year. He will also discuss how 146 active subdivisions and planned municipal improvements are driving growth throughout the city.  Rio Grande Guardian
