  • The City of Edinburg reminds pet owners to keep animals safe from New Year’s fireworks by exercising dogs earlier and keeping them indoors. Officials advise creating a calm space at home (by playing music or TV) and ensuring pets have updated ID tags and microchips.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • Edinburg mourns community icon David Chavana—an educator and co-founder of the annual 10K run—who passed away on Dec. 28. Mayor Omar Ochoa and city officials credited his lasting influence on local education and athletics as the race continues to honor his legacy.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • Local neighbors sold 300 chicken plates on Saturday to help the Hernandez family rebuild after a fire destroyed their longtime home on Dec. 22.  KRGV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Edinburg Library is hosting a DIY Embroidery Class for teens and tweens on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library. The free session offers an introduction to basic stitching skills (supplies provided) for participants aged 11 to 18.  The Edinburg Advocate

HEALTH NEWS

  • Edinburg Fire Chief Omar Garza advised residents planning to use fireworks to follow safety guidelines amid dry conditions, warning that sparks can quickly start fires. He stressed that children must be supervised & that water should be nearby to prevent burns and injuries.  KRGV
