A deputy in Hidalgo County fatally shot 34-year-old Javier Aguilar during a response to a domestic dispute in Donna, Texas, after Aguilar hit the patrol car with his vehicle and approached the deputy in a threatening manner.

Marco Morales, a UTRGV bilingual education major and the previously anonymous Vaquero mascot, transitioned from mascot to proud graduate during the Fall 2024 commencement.

Hidalgo County's new courthouse in Edinburg passed the Texas Commission on Jail Standards inspection, and will be operational within 60 to 90 days following the transfer of records and personnel.
