- ➤ Mario Reyna (leader of the Prosperity Task Force) wrote a guest column urging local mentors to support groups like United Way and local Boys & Girls Clubs to guide youth in Hidalgo County. He stressed that expanding mentoring programs is critical to help young people learn, avoid trouble, and strengthen the community. Rio Grande Guardian
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hidalgo County Drainage District No. 1 upgraded aging drainage systems as rapid urban growth overwhelmed infrastructure designed for farmland — voters approved $385 million in bonds to restore channels, add detention ponds, and expand capacity. Yvette Barrera said projects during a March storm kept neighborhoods dry and further work will continue to protect the area. Rio Grande Guardian
