COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Edinburg Police will host the annual Blue Santa Toy Giveaway on Dec. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Promenade Park Amphitheater, where children 0 to 12 will receive free toys on a first-come, first-served basis — the event features dino rides, pony rides, a car show, a screening of Elf, and vendor booths — sponsored by local businesses.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department earned the Platinum Member City Award from the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation for the fifth time on November 25, 2025 — the honor was announced at the TAAF annual conference in Waxahachie. The award recognizes the city's strong support for recreational sports and community fitness programs as the department consistently leads in registered teams and participants.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • Edinburg’s annual Night of Lights Parade (Cinema Christmas theme) will take place on Dec. 5th at 7 p.m. along Closner Boulevard in downtown. Parade entry slots have filled up, and residents are urged to arrive early for good viewing spots.  The Edinburg Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Maria Camila Gonzalez Tovar, a third-year student at UTRGV School of Medicine, received the 2025 U.S. Public Health Excellence in Public Health Award on November 25—recognition for her leadership in community health initiatives. She led the HPV Education Initiative with Edinburg CISD and Hidalgo County Health and Human Services to boost vaccine awareness in the Valley.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library will host its free Family Storytime with RedRover Readers series offering story sessions and themed activities focused on animal care. The next event is on November 29 at 1 p.m.—featuring Buddy Unchained by Daisy Bix, with additional sessions on December 6 and December 13.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District will host a FAFSA/TASFA Round-Up for high school seniors and their parents on Tuesday, Dec. 2 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the ECISD IT Building in Edinburg—families must bring key documents to complete the application process that is now a graduation requirement under Texas law.  The Edinburg Advocate

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Willie B’s Barbeque in Edinburg will cater about 500 Thanksgiving meals—continuing 28 years of family service by using time-honored recipes to bring comfort to both long-time customers and those needing a hand. Owner Gloria Gonzalez said the family prepares every dish with care to ensure a warm, homemade meal during the holiday season.  MyRGV.com
