- ➤ The Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery is asking for help with its holiday wreath program—officials say it has about 560 wreaths but needs 3,800 more and is seeking volunteers to place them on veteran graves December 13. KURV

- ➤ La Joya ISD announced that Palmview High School student Gilbert Govea died following a weekend vehicle accident— the district activated its District Support Team to work with counselors and staff to support students. KRGV

- ➤ The City of Edinburg is hosting its annual UFO Festival and Conference from Nov. 20—22 at the ACE Center. The event features a live stage show with cast members from Ancient Aliens, community storytelling on a 1966 UFO incident and science programs with a downtown street celebration planned to cap off the festivities. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Mercedes ISD and Region One have partnered to launch a paid teacher residency program that lets aspiring teachers work in classrooms while earning their teaching certificates. About 10 residents have enrolled, and the program will help them learn classroom planning — a key skill for running a class. KRGV
