COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Edinburg will host a free outdoor concert—Stars, Stripes & Sounds—on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Promenade Park Amphitheater; live performances by Draft, Kelo McKane, and headliner Sammy Arriaga and food and drink vendors will extend the Veterans Day celebration.  The Edinburg Advocate

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Yesterday the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce launched the Small Business Academy with its first session 'Lead Like a Visionary' to help entrepreneurs and small business owners master leadership, build scalable systems, and manage team dynamics—skills crucial for transitioning from operator to strategist. The six-session program will provide practical guidance while addressing common leadership pitfalls in early-stage businesses.  Rio Grande Guardian
  • HeyWago and Ferdi Esquivel will host a one-day Spanish seminar—Emprende tu Negocio a lo Grande en el Valle—that will provide entrepreneurs with practical lessons on finances, tax preparation, networking, LLC formation, social media strategies, and artificial intelligence tools.  Rio Grande Guardian

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hidalgo City Council Member and Creative Arts Studio founder Augusto Contreras spoke at the 5th Annual Art of the Giving Banquet to share plans for an RGV Conservatory of the Arts. The conservatory will offer programs in mariachi, Norteño, pop, rock, jazz, and modern dance—helping local kids build their talents.  Rio Grande Guardian
  • Tejano music star Bobby Pulido spoke at the 5th Annual Art of the Giving Banquet on October 23 at the Creative Arts Studio in San Juan — he shared his dream that an RGV Conservatory of the Arts will help local music thrive and lift families from poverty.  Rio Grande Guardian
  • On October 23, 2025, Hidalgo County Commissioner Eddie Cantu spoke at the 5th Annual Art of the Giving Banquet at the Creative Arts Studio in San Juan—he praised the school for its support of music education for all kids and said it has grown into a hub for sharing community talent.  Rio Grande Guardian
  • At the 5th Annual Art of the Giving Banquet held at the Creative Arts Studio in San Juan, musician Emilio Santos Zermeño—founder of mariachi band Mariachi 7 Leguas—supported the plan to build a Rio Grande Valley Conservatory of the Arts. He said his backing of the project will help raise funds for Hidalgo City Council Member Augusto Contreras’ initiative.  Rio Grande Guardian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UTRGV was ranked third in Texas for its Master’s in Education programs for 2026 by MastersinEducation.org — the ranking highlights the program’s rigorous standards, experienced faculty and hands-on training designed to prepare new educators for classroom success.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • McAllen High School senior Elizabeth Ford excels in sports, clubs, and academics as she plays four years of varsity soccer, serves as vice-president of BPA, and participates in mock trial and student council (she maintains a 4.0 GPA in several dual credit courses). After overcoming personal loss when her mother died when she was 12, she plans to choose a future in business or law to inspire others.  KRGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Edinburg Police Department and Burleson officers will give a presentation on protecting children online on Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the arts, culture and event center at 315 W. McIntyre St., where they will share social media safety tips — a program designed to help keep kids safe.  KRGV
  • Edinburg city officials announced parade route adjustments for the Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 8 due to Downtown Parking Garage construction—road closures will affect West Kuhn Street and the area near West McIntyre and North Closner Boulevard. The parade will begin at Richard R. Flores Stadium and end on Kuhn Street, and officials urge attendees to follow all posted detours and safety signs.  The Edinburg Advocate
