Edinburg is set to debut a new day-use campsite at Municipal Park near Vackar Stadium.
The site offers fire pits and barbecue areas for family gatherings (overnight stays are not available) and will open in January 2027.
American Legion Freddy Gonzalez Post 408 in Edinburg is asking community members to vote on its new bald eagle mascot from three choices on Facebook.
Votes for Edy, Liberty, or Blaze will decide the mascot name and supporters are encouraged to share the post with others.

UTRGV received a $5M federal grant on Thursday to fund EMPOWER-RGV, a program offering workforce training, technical assistance, and support for small manufacturers in the Rio Grande Valley.
The initiative is expected to train 250 workers and create 50 manufacturing jobs.

Edinburg will host a Veterans Benefit Fair on Oct.
15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Edinburg Arts, Culture, and Events Center (315 W. McIntyre St) to help veterans and families with education, healthcare, career counseling, legal aid and more; walk-ins are welcome and registration is encouraged.
Edinburg hosted a sandbag distribution on Thursday, Oct.
1 at the Service Center (1201 N. Doolittle Road) to help residents and businesses prepare for expected rainfall. City staff loaded bags directly into vehicles until supplies ran low and then switched to self-service.
TxDOT urged drivers in Edinburg to heed the safety advice 'Turn Around, Don't Drown' as heavy rain and potential flash flooding threaten local roads today.
The Be Safe. Drive Smart campaign advises checking road conditions (via DriveTexas.org or 800-452-9292) and driving cautiously.

A free mobile dental clinic operates at Bert Ogden Arena today and tomorrow, Oct.
