- ➤ Make-A-Wish RGV is preparing for its Wine for Wishes fundraiser on Saturday, October 4 at The Shores on South Padre Island— the event will help grant wishes to critically ill children. KRGV
- ➤ Channel 5 News is adding to its anchor team as Joel Villanueva returns as morning anchor on Monday, Sept. 22—while Javier Guerra moves to the evening newscasts. Villanueva, the former sports director, will lead the morning show in the Rio Grande Valley. KRGV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Edinburg City Commission will meet today to discuss the upcoming fiscal year's budget and property tax rate as staff propose keeping the rate at $0.63 per $100 despite rising property values+ a public hearing will let residents share their input. The Edinburg Advocate
- ➤ A new state law named the Wade Cannon Act will require cities to pay for cancer screenings for firefighters after their fifth year on the job starting June 1 — a measure aimed at catching cancer early and lowering treatment costs — officials said. KRGV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dr. David G. Alonzo explained that prostate cancer can be silent in its early stages—men over 50 or with a family history should get regular screenings and adopt healthy habits. He added that care at DHR Health in Edinburg helps men in the Rio Grande Valley detect and treat the disease early. Rio Grande Guardian

- ➤ KFXV-TV FOX RGV launched a contest that gives one a chance to win four tickets to Monster Jam at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg—entries are accepted from September 15 until October 9 and the winner will be drawn on October 10 for the event set for October 10–12. FOX RGV
