Commissioner David Fuentes announced that a $7.5 million Wellness & Activity Center will be built at 1901 N.

Bridge Ave in Weslaco using ARPA funds. The 26,000 square foot facility will offer gymnasiums, courts and classrooms for county employees and the public—set to open mid-January.

Edinburg Conceptos Dance Ensemble will present Nuestra Herencia—a folklórico dance recital celebrating local culture—on Sept.

19 and Sept. 20 at the Edinburg ACE Center. Both events will start at 7:30 p.m. and will feature guest ensembles from local school districts with tickets costing $5 and free admission for children 10 and under; public parking will be available at City Hall.

Lyford High School honored 17-year-old Mario Castillo as Student of the Week for his top grades, strong leadership on the tennis and cross-country teams, and work in public speaking and mental health awareness.

He plans to graduate with an associate degree, has completed a CTE Health Science internship, and traveled to Austin as part of a student advocacy council—while setting his sights on becoming a neurosurgeon.

Edinburg CISD said that 533 returning students joined through Project Gateway and 502 remain enrolled, while board members pushed for new clubs & workforce training to connect with students at risk of dropping out.
