- ➤ Seventeen year old Juan Salazar and 21 year old Jose Rios were arrested in Elsa after three Sunday break-ins at a shopping plaza on South Broadway Street where cash was taken from businesses; Salazar also faced a marijuana possession charge—both are charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief. - ➤ Fugitive Primitivo Doria, 75, who escaped custody from a Fort Bliss work detail in 1997 was arrested at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen on Wednesday—he is set to appear in federal court on October 14th. KURV
- ➤ Federal authorities seized nearly 1500 pounds of suspected meth at Pharr International Bridge Tuesday when inspectors removed nearly 500 packages from the roof of a truck hauling broccoli, with officials estimating the street value to exceed 13-million dollars. KURV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Edinburg CISD Board approved a new 2025 to 2026 compensation plan that raises starting teacher pay to $57,300 and boosts wages for nurses, librarians, and other staff based on years of service—hourly employees get a 6 percent raise and full-time workers will receive a $500 mid-year stipend. - ➤ The UTRGV athletic department said fans were satisfied after its first home football game on Saturday, with a survey showing an 85% satisfaction rate following a 66—0 win over Sul Ross State; the team will play its next home game on September 13th against Langston University. KURV
