CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office is searching for 21-year-old Jovanni Palomino, who allegedly tied up a 50-year-old man, stole his vehicle and cellphone, and may have fled to Mexico after an aggravated robbery on August 30 at the 1900 block of Moorefield Road in rural Palmview—authorities found the victim in his home and took him to the hospital. - ➤ A San Juan man pleaded guilty to causing an accident involving death and was sentenced to five years in prison in a deadly crash that killed Rodolfo Trevino along Interstate Two on July 8th, 2023—investigators tied him to the crash using debris, surveillance footage and an anonymous tip. KURV
- ➤ Authorities warned of deadly risks at the border after three undocumented individuals were arrested while hiding inside irrigation pipes in Hidalgo County—Operation Lone Star, a joint effort among local, state and federal agencies, will strengthen measures to reduce illegal crossings. FOX RGV

- ➤ The South Texas International Film Festival returns to Edinburg starting Sept. 10 — the event will run through Sept. 13 at the Edinburg Arts, Culture and Events Center and will offer film screenings, panel discussions, workshops and a screenplay pitch competition. - ➤ The City of Edinburg is partnering with local medical organizations to host a prostate cancer awareness event tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the ACE Center — the event will offer free PSA testing with limited spots requiring early registration. FOX RGV
