- ➤ An 18-year-old Edinburg North student pleaded guilty to a federal felony after a pistol and loaded magazine were found in his backpack and faces up to five years in prison—his sentencing is set for November. KURV

- ➤ Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza, diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier this year and now cancer free, is hosting a free prostate cancer wellness event today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the ACE Center—315 W. McIntyre to encourage early screening among men in the Rio Grande Valley. KRGV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ UTRGV began its first football season with a 66—0 win over Sul Ross State as more than 12,000 fans watched the game. Quarterback Eddie Lee Marburger threw for 365 yards and five touchdowns and the team will travel to face Prairie View A&M this Saturday. KURV
