- ➤ Elsa police arrested 48-year-old Ruben Diaz after a high-speed chase that began with a missed traffic stop and found seven grams of cocaine and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle—he now faces charges for evading and resisting arrest with a bond set at $165,000. FOX RGV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ All four South Texas ISD high schools earned spots among the state’s top 100 after U.S. News and World Report released rankings on August 29—Science Academy in Mercedes ranked 30th, Medical Professions in Olmito 76th, Health Professions in Mercedes 84th, and World Scholars in Edinburg 94th. - ➤ The Texas Senate passed House Bill 8 on Wednesday that will replace the STAAR test with three shorter exams after making a change in the social studies section—voted twenty-one to five. The bill now returns to the Texas House and will go to Governor Greg Abbott for his signature if agreed. KURV
