ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • One person died after a three-vehicle crash in Hidalgo when a vehicle going south on McColl collided with two others—causing one to roll over—and first responders arrived around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday while police continued investigating the incident.  KURV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The ECISD Board of Trustees approved new appointments for vacant administrative and leadership roles during a closed meeting last night—making hires including a Financial Aid Officer, Social Worker, Migrant Coordinator, Head Soccer Coach, Counselor, Curriculum Assistant, Principal, and Director of Facilities, while also terminating three at-will employees. The board will decide on two pending positions at the next meeting.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District will hold a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 at the Board Room at 411 N. 8th Ave. to discuss its proposed 2025-26 budget and a new tax rate of $0.8617 per $100 that will lower the average homeowner’s tax by nearly $189—this change comes as appraised property values increased compared to last year.  The Edinburg Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Edinburg City Council voted tonight to keep the tax rate at $0.63 for the new fiscal year—October 1 to September 30—to cover rising costs and fund pay raises for police and fire fighters. The measure passed unanimously and a public hearing is set for Sept. 16.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • Edinburg PD has launched its first drone first responder program in the Valley to help emergency crews get real-time aerial footage from drones stationed on buildings — with federal support from the U.S. Treasury Department’s Asset Forfeiture Program — to boost public safety.  FOX RGV
