- ➤ Deputies responded just before 9:30 p.m. on Sunday to the 45-hundred block of Fe Drive in Edinburg—where they found 26-year-old Julio Cesar Soto Junior fatally wounded by a rifle shot while singing—and witnesses reported that 32-year-old Freddy Mireles shot him; Mireles was arraigned on Monday and given a $2.5M bond. - ➤ The Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees met Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. at the district administration building to consider new hires, leadership appointments, technology purchases and policy revisions. They reviewed candidates for positions including a principal at Crawford Elementary and a facilities director while receiving a health update from the Hidalgo County Health Authority — decisions expected to shape school staffing and operations.
