Residents can register for the free Citizens Fire Academy offered by the Edinburg Fire Department, which holds classes Monday through Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. The first session runs from Sept.
14 to 17 and the second runs from Sept. 21 to 24 with graduation on Sept. 24 (registration ends Aug. 31).
The City of Edinburg will host a 9/11 Ceremony and Honor Walk at Fire Station 1 on Friday, Sept.
11. The remembrance ceremony begins at 8:45 a.m. with TAPS (ringing of a bell and siren tribute) and a 911-meter walk follows at 9:11 a.m.

Edinburg CISD officials reported on Aug.
18 that the district faces a $15 million deficit for fiscal year 2026-27 amid declining enrollment. They outlined cost-saving measures including a hiring freeze and tax rate adjustments and set a public hearing for Aug. 25.
🏥 Health
Ivan Garcia, MD urges residents to schedule regular checkups with their primary care physician to catch health issues early and manage chronic conditions at DHR Health Family Medicine (1000 E.
Dove Ave, McAllen). He says these visits offer trusted care and personalized advice based on patient history.
Hidalgo County Commissioners Court proclaimed August as National Breastfeeding Awareness Month on Tuesday, Aug.
18, to support mothers and families. Resource tables with information from local programs (Hidalgo County WIC Program and Lactation Care Center RGV) were set up outside to offer lactation guidance.
