- ➤ Joel Americo Garza Junior, 51, was arrested in Hidalgo County for allegedly selling illegally cloned modems after investigators seized over 50 devices during a months-long probe by Spectrum and the sheriff’s office—more arrests are expected as the investigation continues. KURV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Edinburg will host a film-friendly workshop on Aug. 30 at the ACE Center on W. McIntyre St.—the session runs from 11 a.m. to noon and is followed by a networking hour with free coffee and pastries for filmmakers and local business owners. Attendees will learn how to apply to film at city-approved locations and list their properties for the film-friendly business program. The Edinburg Advocate

- ➤ Jose Quiroga, president of Texas National Bank, spoke at the Buenas Tardes Luncheon hosted by Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce and said the local economy saw a slowdown in the housing market while job growth from SpaceX and LNG projects and border security investments supported local business activity—he also noted a 94% chance for a rate cut in September. - ➤ The City of Edinburg is accepting applications for its Boulevard of Heroes program—designed to honor local veterans and active-duty service members with custom banners along the tribute route—with submissions due by Sept 1. - ➤ A funeral procession honoring Edinburg Police Investigator John Olivarez, who died on August 11 after battling cancer, will cause rolling ramp closures along southbound U.S. 281 and westbound I-2 today from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.—12 on-ramps will close along the route from University Drive in Edinburg to Conway Avenue in Mission.
