CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police arrested suspect John Anthony Saenz for his involvement in a deadly hit-and-run that killed 36-year-old Juan Nava Hernandez early Friday on South Tenth Street + Saenz was booked into Hidalgo County Jail and later released on a $35,000 bond. KURV
- ➤ Former councilman Jorge Salinas is planning to plead guilty to a federal bribery charge after his lawyer announced the decision last Friday in McAllen—Salinas was indicted on bribery and racketeering charges last year for allegedly accepting bribes for favorable votes during his term and he could face up to ten years in prison with his next court appearance set for next month. - ➤ The Cultural Arts Division is hosting an evening of chamber music at the ACE Center on August 8 at 7 p.m., where local Strings and Winds Quartets and a Piano Trio will perform for a community audience. - ➤ Border Patrol Sector Chief Gloria Chavez, who led efforts in the Rio Grande Valley since 2022, was fired Friday after a Customs and Border Protection statement implied misconduct — Jason E. Schneider was named acting chief. KURV
- ➤ The U.S. Small Business Administration will open a disaster loan center at the Pharr Development and Research Center on West Dicker Road to help businesses with damage from a severe storm in late March — the center will operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. KURV

- ➤ STHS Edinburg finished second in a 13—year contest for Most Beautiful Hospitals after a five—week vote—earning 1,009,985 votes and finishing fewer than 60,000 votes behind Chickasaw Nation Medical Center.
