A kitchen fire broke out last night in a mobile home on the 1600 block of Lemon Street and a working smoke detector installed by the Edinburg Fire Department saved the lone occupant—firefighters quickly responded and contained the flames before the fire spread.

Jorge Rodriguez is accused of stealing $2.7 million from 18 victims and faces 13 charges in Hidalgo County+he is set to appear in court on August 12th.

Dr. Daniel P. King of Region One Education Service Center said studies show students do better with certified teachers—state leaders have now reversed course to support teacher certification.

The new House Bill 2 will bar uncertified teachers from core classes and schools must comply by fall 2026.
