ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Jose David Martinez, 56, who was reported missing near W. Sprague Road, was found dead in an Edinburg drainage ditch after a medical exam confirmed his death was due to drowning—no foul play was noted.  KRGV

CRIME NEWS

  • Police are investigating the death of a 23-year-old woman found last night in Casa Saldana Apartments, and they suspect that alcohol complications—potential signs of an overdose—played a role in her tragic death.  FOX RGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former mayor Richard Molina filed on Monday to run for mayor this November while current mayor Ramiro Garza will not run after his prostate cancer diagnosis; Molina, who led Edinburg from 2017 until losing reelection in 2021, said he counts on his faith in Jesus Christ and community support to guide him.  KRGV

HEALTH NEWS

  • DHR Health Women’s Hospital will celebrate its 150,000th delivery on July 24 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at its outpatient lobby on McColl Road—honoring patients, physicians and staff while marking years of trusted maternal care.  Rio Grande Guardian
  • DHR Health Clinics will host a free hiring event at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance at 118 Paseo Del Prado on August 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.—a free event open to the public—and job seekers will meet representatives from various medical specialty clinics to learn about available positions.  Rio Grande Guardian
  • STHS Heart completed its 500th robotic surgery in early July—two years after launching its robotic program in June 2023 with the da Vinci XI system. Dr. Bob Saggi led the inguinal hernia repair to offer patients minimally invasive procedures with faster recovery times.  Rio Grande Guardian
  • Juan Camacho, a 73-year-old man who smoked, beat lung cancer after a routine checkup led to a low-dose CT scan that found a dangerous nodule and DHR Health used robotic-assisted bronchoscopy— the only tool of its kind south of San Antonio— to quickly arrange surgery. He recovered fully after the cancerous tissue was removed and is now cancer-free.  Rio Grande Guardian

  • Former Vaqueros catcher Steven Lancia signed with the Chicago White Sox organization on Tuesday, July 22, after a standout college career where he ranked in the top 10 for hits and RBIs—his placement in the organization remains undecided.  KRGV
