  • On March 18, 78-year-old Vidal Cruz was fatally beaten during a landlord-tenant dispute on the 2900 block of Hermosillo Street by 30-year-old Weslaco man Cristian Puentes, who was indicted on June 26 and arraigned on April 1 with a bond of $1.55 million + surveillance footage confirmed he wore a yellow shirt + records show he was arrested on unrelated warrants on March 19.  MyRGV.com
  • A man reported missing Friday was found dead in a canal near the 2600 block of W. Sprague Road in Edinburg—officials said there was no foul play, he may have had a medical condition, and the investigation is still ongoing.  KRGV
  • Two South Texas women pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for trying to cheat a federal fitness test in McAllen on Tuesday—both resigned their posts and agreed not to apply for another federal job for 25 years as part of a plea deal with a recommendation for probation.  KURV
  • A man was arrested after confessing he killed a woman in Weslaco—police found her body in a home on West 11th Street and more details will be released later today.  KURV
