  • Residents may enter to win two tickets to see UNITED live at Payne Arena in Hidalgo on July 26—KFXV-TV’s contest starts today at 5:00 a.m. and ends July 24, with a winner chosen around July 25.  FOX RGV
  • Edinburg Police Department will host National Night Out on August 5 at 6 p.m. at Promenade Park Amphitheater, where a free carnival, live music, food and a car show + a special appearance by Bobby Pulido will be offered along with a backpack and school supply giveaway. This community event is designed to bring neighbors together and highlight local safety programs.  KRGV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Later this month, the Dustin M. Sekula Memorial Library in Edinburg will launch its first-ever Children’s Entomology Program in partnership with the Texas Pest Management Association, offering hands-on activities, story time and guest speakers at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday from July 21 to August 1 — a program that will let kids explore both beneficial insects and common pests.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • UTRGV School of Medicine announced Tuesday its first endowed chair when officials established the Subram G. Krishnan M.D. and Sumant 'Butch' Krishnan M.D. Endowed Chair to improve care in underserved communities + a search committee began work to choose the inaugural holder.  KRGV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Angela Lomas said fatty liver is a condition that builds up fat in the liver and can lead to scarring and cirrhosis if not treated, affecting about one in three people. She added that high-risk patients should get regular tests such as the FIB-4 index and follow healthy habits like exercise, a good diet, and not drinking alcohol—steps that help stop the disease from worsening.  Rio Grande Guardian

  • On Tuesday, July 15, Loredo’s Tortilleria on S. Sugar Road in Edinburg served breakfast tacos that impressed with fresh tortillas and balanced flavors while owner Manuel greeted patrons with friendly service—customers enjoyed barbacoa, potato and egg, and chorizo and egg tacos without the usual grease.   • Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department will host its 5th Annual Triathlon on Aug. 10 at the Municipal Pool starting at 7:30 a.m.—registration costs $25 until Aug. 6—and participants will race in swimming, cycling, and running events with packet pickup on Aug. 7 and 8 and on race day from 6 to 7:15 a.m.  The Edinburg Advocate
