- ➤ Edinburg will host a family-friendly block party with a free screening of Wicked on Sunday, July 14 at Bicentennial Park starting at 6 p.m.+ The event will offer free hot dogs, popcorn, games and prizes and let families meet police and firefighters as part of National Night Out. - ➤ Edinburg Chamber of Commerce and CB3 Consultants are collecting donations to help families in Kerr County affected by the July 4 floods. Items like nonperishable food, hygiene products, baby essentials, tools, flashlights, batteries, cleaning supplies and pet products can be dropped off daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at CB3 Consultants Equipment and Hauling at 506 W. - ➤ Former Progreso School Board President Francisco “Frank” Alanis was sentenced to 12-and-a-half years in prison on Tuesday for his role in a cocaine smuggling scheme—he pleaded guilty to providing financial support while denying a larger management role. KURV

- ➤ Edinburg will host Tools and Talent, a skilled trades job fair at the Edinburg Activity Center at 123 Mark S. Peña Dr. on August 13 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event, organized with Workforce Solutions and the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation, will let job seekers in welding, HVAC, construction and manufacturing connect with employers — boosting local workforce links. - ➤ In Edcouch and Elsa, hundreds of residents will soon receive letters to update their addresses—this step is needed so emergency services can respond accurately to 911 calls.
