COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for its nine-month Leadership Edinburg program—designed to prepare emerging leaders with monthly sessions, immersive retreats, and a bi-annual visit to the Texas Legislature. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Edinburg Arts Foundation will celebrate Rio Grande Valley artists in the Art at Edwards 5th Annual Art Show on Saturday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Edward Abstract and title Co.—3111 West Freddy Gonzalez Drive—as the event offers free admission.  KRGV
  • The Museum of South Texas History will host its inaugural Tacos and Tequila fundraiser on July 25 from 6 to 10 p.m. at its downtown venue, where attendees can enjoy taco tastings, tequila-inspired drinks, aguas frescas, live music, and a pop-up exhibit of rare artifacts — proceeds will support museum exhibits and educational programs.  The Edinburg Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Edinburg in partnership with the Texas Music Office will host a free info session for local music venue operators, festival organizers and community leaders at 11 a.m. on July 16 at the Edinburg ACE Center—located at 315 W. McIntyre St.—with expert presentations on the Music Friendly Texas Program and the Texas Music Incubator Rebate Program offering up to $100,000 and networking opportunities with a complimentary lunch.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • Two firefighters from the Edinburg Fire Department were deployed today to join Texas A&M Task Force 1 and help search, rescue, and recovery efforts after severe storms caused flooding in Kerr County — they are working with local and state emergency crews to assist affected areas.  The Edinburg Advocate

  • The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley football team released its schedule Monday and will play seven home games and five road games in its first season. The season will start on August 30th at Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium in Edinburg and end with a home game on November 22nd against East Texas A&M.  KURV
