- ➤ Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza said he was at McAllen International Airport Monday morning when a gunman fired near the Border Patrol Annex—federal agents returned fire to kill suspect Ryan Louis Mosqueda and the airport was locked down until flights resumed around 10:40 a.m. KRGV

- ➤ Residents of Hidalgo, Willacy, and Starr counties can enroll in a free welding certification program offered by Region One ESC’s Division of Leadership & Community Impact that provides hands-on training and industry credentials — seating is limited and only those with valid work authorization and a high school diploma or GED qualify. - ➤ Edinburg officials announced that council member David White will not extend his appeal after a June 30 ruling confirmed that Gerardo 'Gerry' Lozano won the November 2023 election for Place 4; Lozano will be sworn in as councilman on July 16 at 6 p.m.—the move ends a long legal dispute. - ➤ South Texas Health System in Edinburg welcomed its first Independence Day baby when Little Ricardo Mateo was delivered on July 4 at 3:15 p.m.—he weighed 8 lbs, 5 oz and measured 22 inches, arriving ahead of schedule to mark the holiday. Rio Grande Guardian
- ➤ Cameron County Public Health canceled Operation Border Health, scheduled for July 21st through July 25th at Los Fresnos High School, due to funding issues (staffing cuts also played a role). The department expects to resume the event next year. KRGV
