- ➤ A Freightliner truck lost control and collided with a Hidalgo County Sheriff’s patrol unit on Highway 281 near El Rucio Road around 4:30 p.m., causing the truck driver to die while a deputy received minor injuries—authorities are investigating the incident to address rising safety concerns. - ➤ The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District is holding a special board meeting today at 12 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room at 411 N. 8th Street to review contracts for roofing repairs at Canterbury and Cavazos Elementary, chiller replacement at Harwell Middle School, and multi-use buildings at high schools—following delays from the Facilities Committee's review process. - ➤ Portions of Hidalgo and Cameron counties have been designated as a National Defense Area — now managed by Joint Base San Antonio after land was transferred from the IBWC to the GSA.
