- ➤ A 26-year-old Edinburg man, Tristan Andrew Mares, was arrested after refusing to stop for a state trooper on a motorcycle ride in Donna on Monday night—his chase ended in a crash near 25th Street and Freddy Gonzalez Drive in Edinburg that injured the trooper, and he was booked yesterday on a charge of evading arrest. - ➤ The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District board approved Rafael Benavides as head cross country coach and Andres Garcia as assistant principal at Edinburg North High School last night—several other staffing positions remain pending. Greg Abbott ordered the Texas Animal Health Commission and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to form a New World Screwworm Response Team to prevent the spread of an invasive fly that threatens livestock.
