Hidalgo County Judge Richard F.
Cortez will host a free puppet show, 'Through the Storm with Sunny,' today at the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library (1906 S. Closner Blvd) with shows at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and a Power Out Cooking demonstration on alternative fuel methods.
At La Joya ISD’s June 17 meeting, the board approved a balanced $258 million 2026-27 budget that adds a 3% pay raise for roughly 3,071 employees + increases starting teacher pay to $58,300 and continues Pre-K services.
The board will vote on the unchanged tax rate in September.
Edinburg CISD appointed Gisela Saenz as interim superintendent on Tuesday night after Mario Salinas retired.
Saenz—who led La Joya ISD for 36 years—will serve until the board reviews permanent applications in a closed session.
