Edinburg CISD will require all middle and high school students to use clear backpacks beginning with the 2026-2027 school year — a measure to boost campus safety that applies to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders at Brewster School while exempting elementary students.

Edinburg Fire Department is accepting applications for its free Teen Fire Academy program to train teens 13 to 17 through hands-on fire safety drills (parental approval is required), with applications due Monday, June 22 for sessions starting July 6.

Robert Vela High School will host a volleyball camp for ECISD students from Tuesday, July 28 to Thursday, July 30 at Vela Gym, 800 E.

Canton Rd. Sessions are divided by grade with fees starting at $40 (rising to $50 after June 30).
