  • At the 2025 South Texas Summit, Supply Pay CEO William Steele, whose firm is located in Weslaco, urged importers and exporters to connect with his startup to improve supply chains across the border. The company, which won $15,000 at FreedomFest, seeks leaders from sectors such as fresh produce, automotive, textiles and e-commerce — it plans to use their feedback to refine its tools.  Rio Grande Guardian

CRIME NEWS

  • On Wednesday, CBP officers arrested 31-year-old Alan Alexis Ornelas at McAllen International Bridge as he tried to enter the U.S. from Mexico—he was wanted for murder by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and now awaits extradition.  FOX RGV
  • Carlos Antonio Cardenas was sentenced to life in prison for fatally stabbing two men at a Motel 6 in McAllen on March 18— a verdict that ended a case which had shocked local residents and raised safety concerns.  FOX RGV
  • Two suspects in a stolen vehicle fled into Mexico after being caught on camera crossing the border — the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office released their images and asked locals to call with any tips.  FOX RGV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The North American Development Bank approved a $400 million fund for water conservation and diversification projects in the border region after severe drought led two Texas counties to declare emergencies—public input will be welcomed during a 30-day comment period before final approval. The fund will offer up to $100 million from retained earnings and $300 million in low-interest loans to help address urgent water needs.  Rio Grande Guardian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local mayors from Mission, Harlingen, McAllen and Laredo voiced concerns over recent federal immigration raids that disrupted local commerce and raised economic worries. They called for clear cooperation between federal authorities and local law enforcement—supporting the president's view that such actions might soon be halted.  FOX RGV
