CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday, DPS agents in Hidalgo County seized over 390 bundles of suspected meth—valued at more than $2.4M—from a truck at Pharr Point of Entry after finding a false compartment, and the driver was arrested.  KURV
  • Authorities arrested 35-year-old Margarito Alcantar yesterday after a chase that started in Pharr and ended in Edinburg—he is wanted for failing to appear in court on a murder charge and hit several DPS vehicles before crashing into a wall on Eldora Road.  KURV
  • South Texas man Carlos Cardenas, Junior—a twenty-year-old—was sentenced to life in prison without parole after pleading guilty to capital murder for a deadly 2023 hotel stabbing in McAllen—he was arrested more than two years after two people died at a Motel 6 along Expressway 83 when a knife was found near one victim.  KURV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On June 12, mayors in South Texas raised concerns over Homeland Security Investigations carrying out immigration enforcement with no warning—saying local police were not involved. They urged federal authorities to improve communication to reduce community disruptions.  The Edinburg Advocate
