COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Edinburg will celebrate Juneteenth on Saturday, June 21 with a commemorative ceremony from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium plus a festival with live music, food, and family-friendly activities from 7:30 to 10 p.m. that honors the day Texas learned of freedom and celebrates African American history.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • The Edinburg Police Department is asking vendors to join the 2025 National Night Out scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 5 at Edinburg Promenade Park. Local businesses, organizations, and food vendors may apply—events will include family-friendly activities, live entertainment and safety demonstrations.  The Edinburg Advocate

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Edinburg reported a 4.2% rise in March sales tax revenue over last year—figures from the Economic Development Corporation show year-to-date collections reached $16.7 million, a 3.55% increase over the previous year.  The Edinburg Advocate

CRIME NEWS

  • Yesterday, Border Patrol agents found three bodies near the –Starr County-Hidalgo County line– around noon and authorities are working to identify the victims and determine their cause of death.  KURV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Queen Nation, a nationally recognized tribute band, will perform a free concert at the Promenade Park Amphitheater on Saturday, June 14th—attendees should bring lawn chairs and wear 1980s attire for a nostalgic night of Queen hits.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • Local organizations celebrate women veterans today with an art social called Colors of Courage at the Edinburg Arts, Culture and Events Center at 315 W. McIntyre Street. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and is hosted by VFW, the City of Edinburg, the Distinguished Veterans of America Foundation and American Legion Post 408 — women veterans must RSVP by June 10.  The Edinburg Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Edinburg Parks & Recreation will reopen Pirates Cove on June 16 — the facility will offer scheduled swim sessions throughout the week for all ages. Admission costs are $2 for children ages 0–6 and seniors 54 and older, and $3 for ages 7–54 with cash only.  The Edinburg Advocate
  • The IRS announced that taxpayers in Hidalgo, Cameron, Willacy, and Starr counties impacted by late March storms have until November 3rd to file returns originally due on April 15th—penalties for late filing are waived.  KURV
