Benavides Driving School celebrated 50 years in service in the Rio Grande Valley after being started in 1975 by the late Pedro 'Pete' Benavides in Brownsville—now it operates in Brownsville, Harlingen, and McAllen with 15 vehicles and over 30 employees.
The family-owned school offers safe driving lessons with modern vehicles and bilingual classes and will grow further through local partnerships.

The Institute for Leadership in Capital Projects recently hosted a forum —Classroom to Commerce: The Economic Power of Education in the Rio Grande Valley— at the Embassy Suites by Hilton McAllen Convention Center.
Panelists Daniel P. King, Ron Garza and Paul Rodriguez shared their views on how education drives local economic growth as led by ERO Architects CEO Brian Godinez.
At a forum at Embassy Suites, Eloy Garza of Career Bridge and UTRGV urged area employers to give students hands-on work experience—an effort that builds real-world skills and career pathways.
He explained that connecting students with local businesses through programs like RGV Lead will expand career and internship opportunities.
🏛️ Government
State Sen. Juan Hinojosa said he is proud of his work in the 89th Legislature where he helped pass 31 measures and coauthored 111 bills that aim to boost school funding, water infrastructure, and property tax relief in our region.
He secured millions in funding for projects that will improve public safety, flood control, and economic growth—steps that will help local communities advance.
