CRIME NEWS

  • The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office asked for public help to identify a woman seen on security cameras in April who is suspected of multiple vehicle thefts across the county — tips should be reported to Hidalgo Crimestoppers at 956-668-8477.  FOX RGV
  • Two Edinburg men were sentenced for their roles in a scheme to buy and transport guns to Mexico—Mario Elier Leal receiving over eight years and Rodolfo Benitez-Garza serving a year and a half—after federal investigators uncovered the plan last July.  KURV
  • Kevin Alfredo Gonzalez was arrested on June 4 on criminally negligent homicide charges for a January 2024 crash on La Homa Road north of Palmview that killed Isaiah Angelo Torres — he is held without bond pending arraignment next week.  KURV
  • Federal investigators and ICE agents arrested 16 people after a Monday raid in Mercedes when a tip led them to an alleged stash house where the owner reportedly admitted to harboring the group, and the detainees are from Nepal, Albania, Honduras, Mexico, and Guatemala.  KURV
  • Christopher Lee Soto will face trial on June 16 for murder in connection with the 2023 stabbing death of Brittany Kay Ireland, who was found dead at a mobile home in Alamo — the court is waiting for exam results to confirm his competence to stand trial.  KRGV

  • Edinburg City Council honored 30 graduating seniors at a Tuesday meeting on June 3—three earned full, merit-based appointments to the U.S. service academies while the others enlisted in various military branches, demonstrating their commitment to serve.
