ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A man died in a single-vehicle crash in Alamo when his car hit a pole on Sunday evening near FM-495 and Alamo Road — authorities are investigating the cause.  KURV
  • Mission Police Department is investigating two motorcycle crashes from Monday morning—one on Business 83 and Holland Avenue that injured a motorcyclist who later died and one on Glasscock and 2 ½ Mile roads that left another rider with non-life threatening injuries.  KRGV
  • On Saturday afternoon, a crash on State Highway 107 near Alton injured 13 people when a Chevy Silverado hit a Range Rover near La Homa Road—twelve passengers on their way to a celebration were in the Silverado, and the driver was cited for driving without a license, speeding, and not using a child safety seat.  KURV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Edinburg saw a 2.62% increase in population from 2023 to 2024 and now ranks 25th among the fastest growing cities with more than 100,000 residents. The city will see further growth as Zoho plans to begin construction soon on redeveloping the historic Echo Hotel complex—promising new jobs and opportunities—by next year.  MyRGV.com

  • UT-Rio Grande Valley President Guy Bailey and South Texas College President Ricardo Solis will be co-keynote speakers at Classrooms to Commerce: The Economic Power of Education in the Rio Grande Valley—an event scheduled for June 4 at the Embassy Suites in McAllen that will explore how education boosts workforce development and economic growth.  Rio Grande Guardian
