  • McAllen PD asks the public to help locate auto theft suspect Rodulfo Castillo Jr.—accused of stealing a 2022 Dodge Ram in the early morning hours of Monday—and his last known address is in San Benito.  FOX RGV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • At the Commercial & Investment Tour event on May 28 at the Center for Education & Economic Development, Mission EDC CEO Teclo Garcia said several local EDCs received calls from developers planning data centers—comments made during a panel discussion on real estate development.  Rio Grande Guardian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nonprofit groups and churches in the Rio Grande Valley sent a letter to Senators Cornyn and Cruz urging them to reject proposed $300 billion cuts to SNAP — the plan would force Texas to pay between 5% and 25% of food benefits and raise administrative costs from 50% to 75%. Organized by Feeding Texas, the letter warns that the cuts will worsen food insecurity for seniors, veterans, and children, and more groups are being asked to sign on as the Senate will act the week of June 23.  Rio Grande Guardian

HEALTH NEWS

  • On May 28, South Texas Health System hosted a panel discussion titled Healthy Women, Healthy Families and Thriving Communities that featured five experts who explained how factors such as poverty and lack of education have affected women’s health and urged the community to focus on physical, mental and emotional well-being. Attendees received forever bracelets — permanently bonded to their wrists — as reminders to prioritize their own health.  Rio Grande Guardian
  • South Texas Health System Behavioral hosted a panel discussion today on the impact of trauma on mental health at the Radisson Hotel McAllen Airport—featuring five community leaders including Leticia Sosa, Margarito T. Salinas Jr., Cecelia Mata, Chelsy Barron, and Kennetha Foster—to explain how trauma affects well-being and to share available community resources. The discussion underscored the need for trauma-informed care during Mental Health Awareness Month.  Rio Grande Guardian
