The Edinburg Police Department is accepting applications for its 2026 Teen Police Academy for teens ages 14 to 17 who live in the city.

The academy sessions run from 8 a.m. to noon on June 8-12 and June 15-19, with applications due by June 2.

Second- and third-grade students from Sam Houston Elementary served as jurors in a mock trial at the Hidalgo County Courthouse on May 20, where Alexander 'Big Bad' Wolf was acquitted.

Organized by ABOTA (from Rio Grande Valley and Corpus Christi), the event offered a hands-on civic lesson.

Edinburg Library and Cultural Arts will kick off the 2026 Summer Reading Program at the Edinburg Activity Center on Wednesday, June 3, featuring two dinosaur shows by Jurassic RGV Dinosaur Experience (at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.) and family activities with on-site registration.

The Edinburg Fire Department will host Sparky’s School Is Out Bash with games, music, a movie, moon jumps, door prizes and free hot dogs, pizza and popcorn on Thursday, June 4, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Promenade Park Amphitheater (201 W.

McIntyre St).

Edinburg CISD will meet Tuesday, May 26 at 6 p.m. to review a $10M teacher incentive distribution & major contracts for curriculum, technology, and facilities, along with scholarship recognitions, consent agenda items, and closed session personnel matters.
