EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The City of Edinburg’s ACE program continues offering arts and cultural education classes with few spots left in courses such as Portfolio Making, Teens Beginner and Intermediate Colored Pencils, Teens Beginner’s Folklórico and Zumba & Movement Jams — students who miss two consecutive classes without notice will be dropped to maintain class consistency; registration for the next session opens early next month. - ➤ Edinburg launched its Bank On Int! internship in collaboration with UTRGV and the Economic Development Corporation to offer nine undergraduates a 10-week paid summer internship starting in June — the program will place students with regional banks including Freedom Bank, Lone Star Bank and Texas National Bank. - ➤ South Texas College held a groundbreaking ceremony on May 14 for a project to expand its Cooper Center at the Pecan Campus in McAllen—this expansion will add new rehearsal spaces, faculty studios and practice rooms to bring together the Theater, Music and Dance programs into one consolidated facility. The project will allow classes and rehearsals currently spread across campus to move into one space designed to meet growing program needs. Rio Grande Guardian

- ➤ The FAA approved SpaceX's plan to launch up to 25 missions a year from Starbase near Brownsville — they also allowed changes for the next Starship mission but will wait for the eighth test launch report. Elon Musk said on social media that another launch will happen next week. KURV

- ➤ Monica H. Sanchez, CEO of Behavioral Health Solutions of South Texas, urged adults to speak with children openly to help prevent substance abuse and support mental wellness. She cited research from the Prevention Resource Center to highlight rising local challenges and recommended distraction-free check-ins (five to ten minutes) to build trust. Rio Grande Guardian
