- ➤ The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library is hosting a Mother’s Day Brunch and Canvas Creations event on May 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 1906 South Closner Blvd—mothers will enjoy a free brunch and guided painting session led by local artist Kathleen Kelley and must register in advance due to limited space. - ➤ Texas may soon receive a financial windfall as Senator John Cornyn rallies support in Washington to reimburse the state for $11 billion spent on border security under President Biden. The cash is expected to be added to a government funding bill by July 4th. KURV
- ➤ Drivers on I-2 East in Palmview faced lane closures and delays due to pavement work by the Texas Department of Transportation between FM-492 and Conway Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.—the work began Monday and will end Friday. KURV
- ➤ Voters in McAllen elected Tony Aguirre in District One and Rolando Rios in District Three after polls closed on Saturday—Aguirre defeated Timothy Wilkins and Rios beat Omar Quinanilla. Cameron County voters approved Starbase for incorporation with 212 for and six against—Bobby Peden, who ran unopposed, will serve as the new city’s first mayor while a proposed multi-purpose arena was rejected. - ➤ Edinburg City Council will vote today on an ordinance that sets new rules for public participation at meetings—this measure limits speeches to two minutes (or four minutes with a translator) and empowers the presiding officer to remove disruptive speakers if necessary. The Edinburg Advocate
