Edinburg Parks and Recreation will host the Senior de Mayo celebration on May 5 at the Jose Nieto and Consuelo Alfaro Robledo Center (700 S.
Veterans Blvd) for residents 55 and older. The free Cinco de Mayo-themed event offers food, games, arts and crafts, low-intensity exercise and Loteria.

Photojournalist Delcia Lopez earned top honors at this year's Texas Managing Editors awards by winning first place for Star Photojournalist of the Year as well as the class 2A award for News Photography; she also received second place in Sports Photography and Photojournalism (2026).

The City of Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department will host the South Texas Junior Boxing Olympics from May 1-3 at 315 E.
Mark S. Peña Drive in Edinburg. More than 430 young boxers will compete in over 250 matches while tickets are available in advance starting at $12 per day.
