- ➤ The AltaCair Foundation’s Lucky Maverick: Bettin’ on AltaCair gala will be held on May 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Brookhaven Event Center near Pharr, featuring casino gaming, auctions, culinary stations and the honor of community leaders Bobby Pulido and Mayor Ramiro Garza—proceeds will support health care and social service needs in the Rio Grande Valley. - ➤ The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation said that an Austin software company finalized the purchase of the Echo Hotel in Edinburg today—Zoho Corporation plans to use the historic building as state-of-the-art office space for its expanding operations. KURV

- ➤ Mayela Saby Cantu, a 55-year-old McAllen title company employee, pleaded guilty in December 2024 to a wire fraud scheme using falsified documents from multiple closings and was sentenced to two years in prison plus ordered to pay $350K in restitution. MyRGV.com
- ➤ A woman from Illinois pleaded guilty to two counts of intoxication manslaughter after her Ford Escape failed to yield at a stop sign on April 23, 2024 at Alamo Road and Texas Road in Edinburg—killing a passenger and the driver of another vehicle—and she was sentenced to 20 years in prison to be served concurrently. - ➤ A 58—year—old man was arrested Friday in Pharr for a car chase and crash in San Juan after he allegedly took his ex—girlfriend’s car by force at a McDonald’s parking lot and caused a four—vehicle crash that injured several people including a police officer; he faces charges of robbery, child endangerment, evading arrest, resisting arrest and assault on a peace officer with a $475,000 bond.
