On Wednesday, a female San Juan police officer and several others were taken to a local hospital after a four-vehicle crash at about 3:15 p.m. on Veterans — Sioux roads, and authorities urged motorists to avoid the area until the roadway was clear.
Disney On Ice Presents Let's Dance will perform at Payne Arena in Hidalgo — the event brings a popular ice skating show to the area.
Edinburg CISD Board met last night and approved measures to prevent sewer backups at Canterbury Elementary after heavy rains caused repeated sewage overflows — the board discussed maintenance updates including the installation of 50 drain caps and approved competitive bids for a gym addition costing $800,000. The district is working with the city on a long-term fix and is filing claims to seek reimbursement for expenses incurred from the sewer issues.
TxDOT will begin negotiations in May to buy land along the proposed four-lane State Highway 68 that runs from east of Val Verde Road in Donna to Highway 281 north of Edinburg.
The new highway will come very close to some homes—landowners can offer a counteroffer as independent appraisers set fair compensation.
