CULTURE NEWS

  • The Dustin M. Sekula Memorial Library hosted an Open Mic Night on Wednesday, April 22 at 6 p.m. at 1906 S. Closner Blvd, where adults shared poetry, music, storytelling, and acoustic performances (performers could register by phone or at the door).  The Edinburg Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Edinburg Cultural Arts now offers free, 10-week guitar classes for all ages (children and seniors join separate groups) with only 25 spots available on a first-come basis, and registration runs through April 29.  KRGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal appeals court upheld a Texas law requiring every public school classroom to display the Ten Commandments, ruling it does not violate the First Amendment. The decision, released Tuesday by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, reinforces Senate Bill 10 passed in 2025.  KURV
  • Edinburg Fire Department launches the Light the Night campaign April 26–May 3 to honor Fire Chief Shawn M. Snider and fallen firefighters; homes and businesses are asked to display red lights as fire stations and the water tower shine red.  The Edinburg Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • Edinburg Parks and Recreation is hosting the rescheduled 5th Annual Dirty Duathlon this Saturday at Doolittle Nature Park (1300 N. Doolittle Road), starting at 7:30 a.m. The race features a 1.5-mile run, 3-mile bike ride and another 1.5-mile run with $20 for individuals and $30 for relay teams.  The Edinburg Advocate
