A man was arrested at Hidalgo Port of Entry after inspectors found nearly 60 pounds of suspected cocaine hidden in the gas tank of a GMC Terrain on Sunday and he was charged with illegal importation of a controlled substance (Christian Quezada-Valdez from Mexico).

Two women (22 and 18) were arrested after allegedly stealing a black Jeep Gladiator from the 2400 block of Moonlight Lane in Edinburg and taking it across the border, with authorities saying the vehicle was stopped early yesterday while it tried to re-enter the US through the Progreso Port of Entry.

Customs and Border Protection officers seized over $800,000 in cocaine when they inspected a black GMC SUV coming from Mexico at the Hidalgo International Bridge on Easter Sunder — they found 24 packages weighing 63.80 pounds and arrested the driver while beginning a criminal investigation.

Edinburg Solid Waste Management will host its annual tire collection event on April 26 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Edinburg Landfill, Bicentennial Park, and Recycling Center — residents must bring a valid I.D. and utility bill and may drop off up to 20 tires.

South Texas Health System and STHS Clinics will teach the community about Parkinson’s disease on KVEO-TV NBC 23 on Sunday, April 27 at 9:00 a.m.—the 30-minute program explains early signs, treatments, and exercises with insights from experts and a veteran living with the disease.

RGV softball bi-district playoffs are scheduled Thursday through Saturday with games set by class — on Thursday, Edinburg High will host Harlingen High at 6:30 p.m. in a Class 6A DII contest while other match-ups and extra games if needed are planned for Friday and Saturday.

The City of Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department has opened registration for adult sports leagues—volleyball, basketball and softball—with fees from $250 to $300 for different divisions.

Participants can register online or by phone through May 23 as games begin the week of June 9.
