CRIME NEWS

  • A 42-year-old Edinburg man was arrested on Tuesday for severely beating his 86-year-old father on the 6500 block of Sharp Road in rural San Carlos—his father suffered head trauma, a broken nose, cheekbone, and jaw and remains in critical condition.  MyRGV.com
  • Edinburg police are investigating an assault at IDEA Public Schools where a male juvenile was taken into custody on April 15 for hitting another student in retaliation for an incident on April 9 — a female student was interviewed and parents met with officers to learn about the complaint process — as the investigation continues.  KRGV
  • On April 13, CBP officers at the Pharr International Bridge seized nearly 269 pounds of cocaine and over 1,000 pounds of meth hidden in a shipment of chayote from a tractor-trailer coming from Mexico using an X‑ray and a dog team — the meth is valued at about $8.9 million and a criminal investigation was launched.  MyRGV.com

  • Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department will host the annual Senior De Mayo celebration for residents aged 50 and older on May 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the El Tule Center — where seniors can enjoy Lotería, a sombrero decorating contest, low-intensity exercise sessions and free snacks and drinks in honor of Cinco de Mayo.  The Edinburg Advocate
