Dr. Elaine Hernandez (incoming district governor for Rotary International in D5930) writes that the 121 Rotary Clubs help build ties in RioPlex by connecting local leaders and uniting communities on both sides of the Rio Grande.

On April 12th, a small Cessna carrying three passengers made an emergency landing at South Texas International Airport in Edinburg following an engine malfunction—emergency personnel quickly attended to the aircraft and treated all passengers for minor injuries.

A motorcycle driver sustained major injuries in a Saturday crash on the expressway and was taken to a local hospital where he remains in the ICU in critical condition as of Sunday, while occupants of the other vehicle were evaluated and the expressway was closed for about four hours for investigation.

State lawmakers are considering Senate Bill 1236 to rein in pharmacy benefit managers who critics say drive up drug costs and force local pharmacies to close.

The pending law would add audit protections—require fair contracts and a 90-day review period for changes—to help keep Texans from losing access to needed medicines.
