Police arrested 44-year-old Jorge Saldana-Gonzalez for first-degree murder after a woman died from gunshot wounds during a weekend shooting at Sandra’s Bar on North Seventh Street — witness tips led officers to his Edinburg home — and he is held without bond.
Ten new police officers graduated from the Hidalgo Police Department Law Enforcement Academy — at least seven are already employed and officials are planning a new class to include 25 cadets.
Progreso High School's boys soccer team was disqualified from state playoffs for using an ineligible player — a decision announced by UIL on Friday — one hour before the state 4A semi-final game between Progreso and Salado.
The school said it accepted the ruling and would follow UIL rules in the future.
